History

The decision to build a golf course at Gosfield was made in 1986. Architect, Howard Swan and Designer Sir Henry Cotton, proposed that we should add a 9-hole course to the 18 planned. The Lakes course would be a true test of golf, while the 9-hole Meadows Course would be less demanding. The first day’s play on the Lakes Course took place in August 1987, with the Meadows opening a few months later.

BBC golf commentator Peter Alliss, performed the official opening ceremony on 5th June 1989, when the Club was host to ladies from the Women's Professional Golfers' European Tour, 30 celebrities from television, film and sporting backgrounds together with 60 amateurs. This event raised the first of many thousands of pounds which have since benefited junior golfers at Gosfield under the auspices of the Sir Henry Cotton Bursary.

There is much more to the history of our Club, which our Secretary will happily provide if you are interested.
